harris beat donald trump. >> she's experienced. she's tough. she's capable. she's been an incredible partner to me and leader for our country. >> reporter: the president with this parting message. >> the great thing about america, dictators do not rule, but people do. history is in your hands. the power's in your hands. >> reporter: now, the president did make no mention of how he got to this moment. no mention of those concerns about his age and mental sharpness that led so many democrats to question his ability to serve another term. what the president did make clear, he still has a lot of work he wants to get done, pointing to his hopes to achieve a cease fire in gaza. he wants to do more to tackle reproductive rights. more than all, he wants to get out the vote for harris. >> george: also last night donald trump ramped up his attacks on kamala harris. rachel scott is tracking the trump campaign. good morning, rachel. >> reporter: george, good morning.

with just about 100 days to go until the election, former president trump now forced to switch gears, holding the rally in north carolina. with president biden now out of the race, donald trump returns back to the campaign trail, ready to attack his new rival, vice president harris. >> now we have a new victim to defeat, lyin kamala harris. >> reporter: trump repeatedly mispronouncing her name and zeroing in on her role in the administration. she was tasked with addressing the root causes of migration at the border. >> when you look at how bad they are you say, i like trump, but now i really like trump because we don't want to go back. >> reporter: trump not letting up on president biden. his advisers posting these photos of the former president watching biden's oval office address on his plane. trump calling it barely understandable and so bad. list than a week ago trump called for unity during the republican national convention saying he wanted to be a president for all americans after surviving an attempted

assassination. back on the trail he returned to insults and false claims about the 2020 election. >> if you don't mind, i'm not gonna be nice. is that okay? they want me to be nice. >> reporter: harris is only a few days into her campaign. she touched down in indiana, speaking to a large gathering of one of the nation's historically black sororities, hoping to mobilize black female voters. >> i believe we face a choice between two different visions for our nation. one focused on the future, the other focused on the past. and with your support, i am fighting for our nation's future. >> reporter: on capitol hill, some republicans taking aim at her identity, naming her a diversity hire or dei for diversity equity inclusion. >> i think she was a dei hire. >> 100% she was a dei hire.

>> reporter: speaker johnson privately warning republicans to stop, urging republicans to focus on her record instead. harris will have to choose a running mate fast. sources tell abc news she is considering a pool of about roughly a dozen democrats. that includes pennsylvania governor josh shapiro and also arizona senator mark kelly. >> george: also yesterday the fbi director was testifying about the investigation into the assassination attempt on donald trump. they indicated they haven't determined whether he was hit by a bullet. >> reporter: the fbi director was testifying and said it is still an open question about whether the former president was hit with a bullet or shrapnel or a piece of a fragment that hit the former president. after the shooting it was donald trump who said that he was pierced in the right ear by a bullet. days that followed his doctor released a letter saying the bullet came within a quarter inch of his head. the fbi though, this is still an open investigation. they say it's all hands on deck. >> george: thank you very much. let's bring in jon karl. jon, talk about the president's speech last night. first mary said it in herpes.

what happens next after the speech is what's gonna really define his legacy. >> yeah, look. he said this was an inflexion point in american history. the decisions made now will affect the course of history for america and the world for decades. that's almost certainly true, george. how this decision is seen though will depend entirely on what happens in this election. if kamala harris goes on to win, it will be seen as a selfless act of a statesman who did the unthinkable, gave up power. if she loses, the question will be, why did he take so long? why did he run again in the first place? he will face the blame, or much of the blame, for the fact that donald trump won and ripped up whatever legacy he had. >> george: in the end he was getting so much pressure from every corner of the democratic party. >> yeah. you heard mary mention -- no mention of his health, of any of the issues, of his age. really no explanation of why he made this decision in this speech except for when he said

he did it to, quote, unite my party. so he was forced to make this decision. it was not a decision he wanted to make. you had no sense that he thinks he couldn't make it, couldn't serve another four years, that he was too old. none of those doubts at all. and look, one of the key moments we broke on abc was when chuck shumer urged him, pleaded for him to get out of the race. >> george: two saturdays ago. >> saying for his sake, the party's sake, the country's sake. i am told when that meeting ended, it was about 35 minutes, president biden said to schumer, i need another week. they hugged. the meeting end. it was exactly a week later that he made the decision to not run again. >> george: now the race for president entirely transformed. >> it's entirely transformed. democrats, you can see just in the body language of the party. felt they were headed toward a loss for joe biden. now they believe they can win

with kamala harris. the outflowing of volunteers, of money, of energy, something entirely different from where we were a week ago. you can see it in donald trump. >> george: that's what i was going to ask you about. you even saw some of it. their entire campaign was focused basically on the age issue running against joe biden. >> now suddenly donald trump is the oldest person. not only the oldest person in the race, oldest major party nominee in major history. he broke biden's record from four years ago. watching him yesterday i got the sense that he was watching also somebody that was newly energized. it seemed like i was watching donald trump from 2016. i mean, totally gone is the notion of any sense of unity. the guy who said in his convention speech, the first part, i am running to be the president not of half of america, but all of america. looked yesterday like he was running very enthusiastically to be the president of half of america. >> george: do you think we're going to see a donald

trump/kamala harris debate. >> i think that's very much an open question. if trump feels he needs it, it will happen. >> george: jon karl, thank you very much. >> robin: now the russian and chinese jets intercepted by the u.s. military. our chief global affairs correspondent martha raddatz is tracking this for us and what the pentagon is saying this morning. good morning to you, martha. >> reporter: good morning, robin. this is provocative and unprecedented. for the first time ever, chinese bombers were intercepted off the coast of alaska. the two chinese military aircraft, along with two russian bombers, were flying in international air space, but once the u.s. and canada detected the bombers, they closely tracked them and sent u.s. and canadian fighter jets to intercept them. norad said this was not seen as a direct threat, but with joe biden officially a lame duck president, adversaries are bound to try and take advantage of nap it clearly shows the growing cooperation between russia and china in the arctic region, which the commander of norad has said is a very big concern.

guys? >> rebecca: a large concern there. okay, martha. thank you. we turn now to president biden's scheduled meeting with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu after the israeli prime minister's speech to congress, defending the war in gaza, with protesters outside. matt gutman is there outside the capitol this morning. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, rebecca. before that address there was some anticipation that netanyahu might talk about some progress in that stalled cease fire and hostage deal. that is not what we heard. we heard a full throated defense of israel's conduct in gaza, and that address happening historically but around massive security around the capitol with thousands demanding his arrest for war crimes. outside the capitol, thousands protest netanyahu's visit, clashing with police facing

pepper spray. eventually the march stalling in union station where protesters took down american flags and raised palestinian ones. the flag there on the ground was on the flag pole here at union station. protesters here lit it on fire as well as that effa*gy of benjamin netanyahu. but inside the capitol the prime minister greeted with a roaring mostly republican ovation. some prominent democrats like nancy pelosi skipped the speech. those who did attend, like chuck shumer, notably cold to the prime minister. others outright hostile. but netanyahu undeterred vigorously defending israel's response to hamas october 7th rampage. >> israel will fight until we destroy hamas' military capabilities and its rule in gaza and bring all our hostages home. [ applause ]

that's what total victory means. and we will settle for nothing less! >> reporter: netanyahu never mentioned the word cease fire, despite 39,000 palestinians killed, according to the hamas run health ministry, and hundreds of thousands starving. but the first public appearance of a rescued hostage, brutally kidnapped from the music festival october 7th, was the emotional touch stone netanyahu needed to plead for more help from the americans. >> today as israel fights on the front line of civilization, i, too, appeal to america. give us the tools faster and we'll finish the job faster! [ applause ] >> reporter: later today netanyahu will meet with vice president harris. he'll also meet with president biden. from both of them he is likely going to be urged to make more progress on that cease fire deal and hostage release, which has

essentially been stalled for a couple of months now. tomorrow he'll travel to florida to meet with president trump at mar-a-lago. >> robin: now the plea deal agreed to by boeing and the department of justice. good morning, trevor. >> this plea agreement goes before a judge for final signoff. if it's green lit, boeing will plead guilty to conspiracy to defraud the united states and pay a fine of $243 million. this is all centered around pair of deadly max crashes from a few years back. first in indonesia in 2018. second was in ethiopia in 2019 where in total 346 people were killed. prosecutors say boeing defrauded faa officials in the investigation after ward. so on top of paying this fine, boeing would also invest $455 million in compliance and safety programs, independent monitor will be appointed to oversee some of the company's manufacturing. the board of directors would be

meeting with the families of the crash victims. many of those families have already said they are really unhappy with this plea deal. they say boeing avoids a trial, gets a much smaller fine than what they wanted. and they argue boeing still hasn't been held accountable for the deaths of those 346 people. the families are expected to go before the judge to urge him not to accept the deal. it is possible it will be rejected. it's also worth noting, guys, that this deal does not give boeing immunity for any other conduct under investigation. we know there's been several instances just this year. >> george: boy, they have had quite a year. coming up the real life succession. rupert murdoch battles three of his children for his media empire. >> robin: also aled the highened security in paris ahead of the olympics opening ceremony, and the chaos already erupting on the soccer field. >> rebecca: and the baby shark boom. no, we're not talking about your kid's nursery school. we're talking about the places where we're seeing exploding shark populations. but first let's go to ginger, who is with us in l.a. good morning, ginge. >> ginger: hey, good morning to ya. we've got heat advisories here. i want to start you out in

northern california, with an explosive fire near chico. in less than 24 hours it has gone to 45,000 plus acres. in the video you see here, you see the flames rising quickly. had to at least be 1,000 to 2,000 acres per hour at times, and then there where that home exploded. they have a lot going on. very active. one of 88 plus large wild fires in the united states, by the way. the smoke also from these is going to be an issue. you see it from that one park fire. look at boise, idaho. they had that low lying, unhealthy air quality thanks to all of the smoke not just in the u.s., but also from wild fires all over canada. there are more than 1,000 active wild fires in canada now, as we've got those 88 plus. you'll see more of the smoky skies in the midwest. iowa. today we're worried about the dry lightning. we've got elevated risk for thunderstorms. the rain doesn't make to it the ground but the lightning does. montana a reported 109 mile per hour gust.

life i have done for my children. >> reporter: where four siblings battle it out for control of their father's company, apparently locked in a similar battle playing out in real life. according to "the new york times" 93-year-old rupert murdoch allegedly surprised three of his children by filing to change an irrevocable trust to ensure his eldest son has sole power over the business when he dies. >> i'm the eldest boy! >> reporter: the goal, keeping news corp's conservative leanings intact. the trust designed 25 years ago had previously put the conglomerate in the hands of all of his four eldest children. murdoch explaining this in a 2006 video. >> if i go under a bus tomorrow, it will be the four of them will have to decide which one should lead them. >> reporter: but "the new york times" reporting the family fractured after murdoch and lock lynn pushed fox news further to the right when donald trump was in office. now the mogul arguing in court

that the only way to preserve the empire and protect its value is by giving lochlin veto power so he can't be challenged. it would not affect anyone's ownership stake in the company. james, elizabeth and prudence swinging back hiring attorneys to challenge their father's move in court. >> the change murdoch is looking to do would allow one specific child to make all the decisions. that's why the other three are saying this violates the spirit of the original trust. >> reporter: a nevada probate commissioner finding murdoch can amend the trust if he's able to show he is acting in good faith and for the benefit of all his heirs. now the decision about who will run news corp will rest with a judge. >> when we look at good faith in this context, there is not an exact definition. it's supposed to be that it's good faith, it is done to

benefit all member, and that's how it's viewed. so there's a very broad definition of the things that can fall into this. >> and again, murdoch doesn't appear to be seeking to change any of his children's stake in the company, but he wants to cement lochlin as the one firmly in charge. the family trust does contain a provision allowing for changes done in good faith and for the benefit of all members. a trial to determine whether murdoch has met that obligation is set for september. widespread implications for this massive media empire and it's all hinging on good faith. >> robin: we will see what happens. thank you, as always. now paris olympics. the city on high alert with increased security ahead of the opening ceremony. some chaos break out at one of the events already. lot of excitement, of course. maggie rulli is there for us tracking the latest developments. good morning to you, maggie. >> reporter: hey, good morning, robin. you mentioned that tight security. this is what that looks like. check it out.

we are standing right now on a street that's normally packed with tourists, gridlocked with cars. it has been completely shut down to everything besides olympic traffic. there are police cars and police on every single corner, on every single public transit. and then you have this elaborate system of barricades, qr codes, passes, even just to access the main parts of this city. guys, this is being called the largest deployment during peace time of security forces ever in the country's history. it includes 35,000 police officers deployed each day for the olympics. 10,000 soldiers patrolling the streets and sites. france has called in for help from countries that have sent 2,000 police reinforcements. these numbers aren't just for show. there are real concerns over threats. french authorities say they've already foiled several attempts to disrupt these olympics, including arresting a 40-year-old russian man

suspecting a planning to destablize the olympic games. right now security forces are hyper focused on tomorrow night's opening ceremony. this is going to be outdoors, down the river four miles long in the middle of tall buildings, hundreds of thousands of people along the route. it's being described by many as a security nightmare. >> robin: i can only imagine. there have already been some disturbances at the games. tell us about that. >> reporter: yeah, robin, exactly. we aren't officially even at day one of the games and we already saw a violent and chaotic opening to the men's soccer tournament. morocco facing off against argentina. fans from morocco threw bottles, stormed the field. we saw fans eventually evacuated. it took a two hour delay of the game. then the team had to finish the game in front of empty seats. it was all a very bizarre way to start this tournament. morocco did go on with major

upset victory over the two-time gold medal winning argentina team 2-1. >> robin: that was a big, big upset. you kind of eluded to this earlier in your reporting. all this extra security measures, it does appear to be affecting tourism, maggie. >> reporter: yeah, exactly. you can see still a few tourists walking around. normally this area would be slammed by tourists. many say they're staying away because of terror oeuf threats. or just because of fear of overcrowding. the paris tourism board is reporting similar numbers. theysy right now they're expecting 11 million tourists to visit. that's 4 million fewer than they originally thought. with those numbers down, delta, the u.s. airline with the most flights to paris and the airline sponsoring team sauce, is estimating a $100 million revenue hit this summer. that being said, we have met several tourists who have made their way to paris. they all say the same thing, it's been totally worth it. the fewer crowds have been kind of nice.

donald trump had his first campaign rally since biden decided to bow out of the race. let's go back to rachel scott who is following that campaign for us. >> reporter: hey, robin, good morning. we are just about 100 days out from the november election and former president trump forced to switch gears and focus on attacking a new rival, vice president harris. the former president holding his very first rally since biden exited the race. he did test out some new attack lines on harris. he repeatedly mispronounced her name and went after her for the administration's handling of the border. after that attempted assassination on his life, he vowed to focus on unity but he has returned to the familiar play book of false claims about the 2020 election and also insults. even though president biden is no longer in the race he was still top of mind of donald

trump. his campaign advisers posting images of the former president watching president biden's oval office address. trump then went on social media saying it went poorly. as for harris, she gets back out there today in houston texas. she has to choose a running mate, and pretty here. she is considering josh shapiro, as well as arizona senator mark kelly. rebecca? >> rebecca: okay, rachel. thank you. we turn now to news about southwest breaking 50 years of tradition. trevor ault is back with how the airline is making major, major changes. good morning again, trevor. >> reporter: so this is one of the things southwest was best known for. they had this open seating model for 50 years. choose your own seat when you board. this morning southwest will be rolling out assigned seating and offering premium seating options for passengers who want more leg room. of course, it will cost you extra. the airline said they made this decision after listening to customer feed back. 80% of southwest passengers wanted assigned seating.

>> robin: get ready for green day. the band is taking over central park and our summer concert series. we are looking forward to that tomorrow, george. >> george: we are. time for our gm a cover story. world health organization is warning about an increase in dengue fever around the world including 2,900 americans affected this year. that's nearly five times last year's rate. dr. sutton is here. what's going on? >> these are unprecedented biological times. numbers not on increasing in the united states but around the world if you look at some numbers. more than 10 million cases globally, george. that's twice the number that we saw last year. reasons why? we've got more flooding. we've got extreme record

roland is in this film and how he stayed true to the game. >> rebecca: it's based on a game, a video game. you talk about training. did you play a lot of the game? >> i can't say i played a lot of game. did i have to play the game just to understand what the role was? of course. you're looking at over 50 million people that embrace border land, border land's one, two, three. it's a big world so you have to understand the world a little bit. during that, you realize that there's characters and there's story lines. those story lines continue throughout the game. so the fans are expecting that world to be as close to truth as it possibly can. i think they did a good job. they did a good job of towing the line. an amazing cast was brought to the table. and great writers. right?

you need great writers that can take the world of the game and put it on the screen as best as possible. it was our job to gravitate toward the material and do our best to amplify what was there. kate, myself, jamie, arianna, jack. everybody really stepped up to the plate. we got a good movie. >> george: how about the navy s.e.a.l.s. training? what was that like? >> that's what i do anyway, right? you stay ready, you don't have to get ready. eluding to. cate blanchett, jamie lee curtis. what was it like working with them? >> i gotta be honest with you. the dopest thing about working with them is just seeing the grounded individuals that they are. super stars, of course they are, some of the biggest in the game when you talk acting. you're talking a + +. going and embracing this and doing the work and showing up every day not only prepared to work, just prepared to engage and have a good time. when we weren't shooting, we were talking and getting to know one another. we were filming in budapest. going out to dinner, doing lunches, the weekend brunches. i think we did a good job of building an amazing rapport. cate's unreal, not just in talent, but as a person. jamie's heart is one of gold. jamie, i have never seen a person care and cater to the production crew more than jamie. like, she made sure that everybody had treats and cakes

and snacks and there were trucks that she went and got. she was very much a mother-like personality to all. i learned a lot from her. i learned how to be a leader and get the response from people. when you get, they're gonna want to give back. >> george: how about the new 16-year-old arianna? >> amazing talent. the business is lucky because she's got a lot more to do and a lot more to give. i think from her previous hits. she was great in "barbie." she's well beyond her years with the understanding of the business and how to handle herself professional, but still not afraid to be a kid. she and my kids built a great relationship because my kids came out there. they started a friendship, bond.

became best friends after. just great to see her grow up, you know? i saw the younger version of her. now years later, just seeing her turn into an amazing young woman. i'm excited to see what her future will be. >> robin: you are talking about jamie being generous. you hooked her up with a nice little ride. >> i think she told me she was like, i can't wait until i can drive. i'm excited. pretty soon i will be able to drive. i said you can't drive a car but you can drive something. she said, what? for a wrap gift, i bought her a huge golf cart. had it dropped off with a big bow. i said you can't drive a car but you can drive this. it was a good gift. >> robin: it was a great gift. >> rebecca: what did your kids think when you got her the golf cart? >> they had a little attitude. [ laughter ] when is mine or where is mine? my kids are doing well. they're both driving now. i'm excited for them 19 is my oldest. 16 about to be 17 my second oldest.

then i got 6 and 3, about to be 4. quite a separation in age. a loud house. they're loud. >> robin: what do you mean loud? >> loud. we're very loud in the house. very loud. dad! dad! honey! hey, dad! yo, who! just loud. everybody. i wouldn't have it any other way. >> robin: where do they get that from?
